Terms
The deal between you and Mongoose.
These are the rules for using the app. They are short and written in plain language, because terms you cannot read are not terms you agreed to. Using Mongoose means you accept them. Effective September 7, 2026.
What Mongoose is
An app for people who have decided to stop drinking. It gives you a note each morning, a place to write, breathwork and rest practices, a pattern map built out of your own entries, and an AI companion that has read what you wrote. It is a tool for doing the work yourself. That is the whole product.
What Mongoose is not
Mongoose is not medical care. It is not treatment, it is not therapy, it is not counseling, and it is not supervised withdrawal. Nobody at Mongoose is your doctor or your clinician. Nothing in the app is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or medical advice. It does not replace any of those and it was never designed to.
Mongoose is also not an emergency service. Nobody is reading your entries as you write them and nobody is coming if you are in danger. The numbers to call are at the bottom of this page.
Do not make a medical decision because of something the app said. Take medical decisions to a doctor.
Before you stop drinking
If you have been drinking daily and heavily, stopping suddenly can be medically dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal causes seizures and it kills people. That is not a line we added to be careful. It is the real risk for a certain kind of drinker, and you may be one.
Talk to a doctor before you stop if any of these are true: you drink every day, you drink in the morning or to steady yourself, you have had shakes, sweats or nausea when you stopped before, or you have ever had a withdrawal seizure. The intake asks you these questions for exactly this reason, and if you answer yes it will tell you to see a doctor first. Please do.
If you stop and then get shaking, confusion, a racing heart, or you see or hear things that are not there, call 911.
You have to be 18
Mongoose is for adults, 18 and over. If we find out an account belongs to somebody younger, we delete it.
Your account
One account, one person. Use an email address you can actually get into, because it is how you reset your password and how we reach you. Keep the password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you, so tell us quickly if you think somebody else is in there.
Do not share a login. Mongoose remembers what you wrote and answers you personally, so two people on one account get a companion that is confused about both of them.
The companion is an AI
It is not a person, and no human reads your chats as they happen. It gets things wrong. It can misremember, misread what you meant, or say something confidently that is not true. Treat its replies as a thinking partner talking, not as fact and not as something to act on without checking.
Your pattern map and your weekly recaps are generated the same way and carry the same caveat. They are data, never a verdict.
What you write stays yours
Your entries, your journal, your intake answers and your chats belong to you. We do not claim ownership of them, we do not sell them, and we do not publish them.
To run the app at all we need your permission to store what you write, show it back to you, and send the relevant parts to the AI so it can reply. That permission covers operating Mongoose for you and nothing else, and it ends when you delete your account. The privacy policy names every company that touches your data and what each one does with it.
What belongs to us
The app itself: the daily notes, the audio, the practices, the design, the name and the code. You get to use all of it while you are a member. You do not get to copy it, republish it, sell it, feed it to another model as training data, or build a competing product out of it.
How to behave here
A short list. Do not scrape the app or hit it with automated requests. Do not resell or share your access. Do not try to break the security or reach anybody else's data. Do not use the companion to plan harm to yourself or another person. Do not upload anything illegal.
Break these and the account closes.
The leaderboard
It shows the username you choose and your day count. Your email address and everything you have written stay private and never appear there. Pick a name you are comfortable having strangers see. We will change or remove one that is abusive or that impersonates somebody.
Paying for it
Mongoose is a subscription. The plans and the prices are on the subscribe screen. Whichever one you pick renews automatically at the end of its period, at the same price, until you cancel.
Subscribe on the web and Stripe processes the payment. Your card number never reaches us. If a price ever changes you will hear about it before it applies to you, and you can cancel.
If you subscribed through the App Store
Apple handles the billing rather than us, which changes a few things. Apple requires us to set them out plainly, and they are worth knowing anyway.
Your subscription renews through your Apple ID. Cancel it in Settings on your device, not with us, and do it at least 24 hours before the period ends or you are charged for the next one. Refunds on App Store purchases are Apple's to give and we cannot issue them.
This agreement is between you and us. It is not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for Mongoose or for anything inside it. Support is ours to provide, so write to us rather than to Apple. If the app fails to work as promised, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for it; that refund is the limit of what Apple owes you. If anybody claims Mongoose infringes their rights or breaks a law, dealing with that is our responsibility and not Apple's. Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of them.
You also confirm you are not located in a country under a United States embargo and are not on a US list of prohibited parties. Apple requires that of everybody who downloads an app.
Refunds
Cancel whenever you want and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not refund part of a period as a matter of course.
If something genuinely went wrong, you were charged twice or the app was broken for you, email us and we will sort it out. App Store purchases are the exception above: those refunds come from Apple.
Canceling, and deleting
Two different things. Cancel from inside the app, or in your Apple ID settings if you subscribed through the App Store. Canceling stops the next payment. It does not delete anything.
Deleting your account is final. Open Account, go to Leaving, and delete. That removes your entries, your numbers, your chat history and your login, it happens immediately, and it cannot be undone. Take a copy of anything you want to keep first.
When we can end it
We can suspend or close an account that breaks the rules above, that has not paid, or that we are legally required to close. Where it is fair to, we will tell you first and give you a chance to get your writing out. If we close your account for something you did not do, we refund the unused part of what you paid.
Things will change
Mongoose is new and it moves. Features get added, changed, and sometimes removed. We do not promise the app will always work the way it does today.
If these terms change in a way that matters, the effective date at the top changes and you will see a notice in the app. Keep using Mongoose after that and you have accepted the new version. If you would rather not, cancel and delete.
No guarantees
Mongoose is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, free of bugs, or right about everything. We do not promise you will stop drinking or stay stopped. That is your work, and no app can guarantee it. So far as the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose.
How much we can owe you
If something goes wrong and it is our fault, what we owe you is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before it happened. We are not liable for indirect or knock-on losses: lost income, lost data, or anything downstream of a decision you made after reading something in the app.
Some places do not allow limits like that. Where that is true, this one applies as far as the law allows and no further. Nothing here limits our liability for fraud, or for death or injury caused by our negligence, because it cannot.
If we disagree
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, and a dispute goes to the courts there. Before it gets that far, though, email us. Most things are fixable in a message.

Anything about these terms, or about your account, goes to support@mongooseapp.co. Questions specifically about your data go to privacy@mongooseapp.co.
One more time, because it belongs at the bottom of this page as well: Mongoose is an AI and not a doctor. It does not give medical advice. If drinking has been daily and heavy, stopping suddenly can be medically dangerous, so talk to a doctor first. If you have shakes, confusion, or hallucinations after stopping, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
